Does Boscumin Help Joint Pain?

It began like any other airplane trip. I was traveling solo and had a window seat. About halfway through the flight my seatmate sitting on the aisle got up to use the facilities, and I decided it would be a good time for me to get up too. When I returned to my seat, I stepped into my row and turned to sit down in the seat. What happened next would change the next few months of my life.

Unexpected Injury and Intense Pain

Apparently, as I tried to enter my seat, my foot was firmly planted and when I pivoted to sit my foot did not rotate, but my upper body did. The immediate and searing pain in my knee dropped me to the ground, and I fell into my seat with what felt like hot acid dripping down inside my leg beside my knee. I was stunned and scared. I had never injured my knee before, but at that moment I was concerned that I might not be able to walk off of the plane by myself. I had visions of needing to request a wheelchair to get out of the plane. I was traveling alone, and this was no way to start a vacation.

Continuing the Trip

We had about two hours of flight time left. I gingerly tried moving my knee; it seemed to move normally. When it was time to deplane, I stood up very slowly and was pleasantly surprised to find that I could stand and was able to walk with only slight pain. I made it to my destination and iced my knee on and off for the next few days. This was a trip to visit my new baby nephew. Fortunately, for the majority of the stay, I was sitting in a recliner and holding an infant, therefore not putting much strain on the injured knee. After returning home, I noticed pain with stairs but otherwise the pain was not too severe. I assumed I had just tweaked my knee and a little rest would fix it. Fast forward 4 weeks and I was still having pain. The calendar year was ending so I decided I should visit my doctor to make sure nothing was wrong before it was a new deductible year for my health insurance.

MRI Report

After an exam and hearing my description of the injury, the surgeon sent me for an MRI. The end result was that I had sprained my MCL, I had a slight tear in my ACL, and I had fractured my tibia! The MRI also confirmed that I have arthritis in my knee. I was stunned. Such a simple move (sitting down in a seat) and not a dramatic accident had caused me to really mess up my knee. This was especially disappointing as we were just entering the prime hiking season here in Arizona.  Instead of joining my husband on incredible hikes, I had to be content sitting at home and looking at the beautiful photos that he took while exploring Arizona without me. The premise of this blog is “Exploring the Prime” which means we were supposed to be exploring and traveling together now that we are in the prime of our lives and have the time post-retirement.  Instead, I was sidelined with this injury and he was doing the exploring. I was not feeling like I was living the prime of my life to the fullest.

An Alternative Solution

Fortunately, I did not need surgery, but the doctor wanted me to do six weeks of physical therapy and to take anti-inflammatory medication. Due to other medical problems, I am unable to tolerate NSAIDs, so ibuprofen was out of the question. I began PT and tried to live with the pain and aching in my knees. After not getting much relief, I tried cortisone injections yet I still had pain, especially with walking up stairs. Part of the experience of being a blogger involves reading many other bloggers’ posts. As I was reading one evening, I came across a blog written by a fellow blogger describing her experience with a turmeric supplement called Boscumin. She said it worked as well as ibuprofen for both her and her husband. I had tried turmeric supplements before and not had much luck. I was skeptical, but after reading her blog, I recalled that I had previously received an email from this same company offering me a sample of their supplement. When I received the email, I was not having any pain, so I had passed it by. After hearing how well the supplement had worked for my fellow blogger, I decided that I wanted to try this supplement for myself. I searched through my inbox and responded to the email. The company was kind enough to send me a sample of Boscumin, their curcumin/boswellia supplement, to try.

Boscumin

Here is an excerpt from the email the company sent describing the product:

Americans spend over $30 billion on dietary supplements every year, despite the fact that these products are completely unregulated, send 20,000+ people to the ER annually, and frequently do not contain what they say they contain. That realization led Dr. Sreek Cherukuri to form SmartCeuticals, a company that strives to educate consumers about the supplement industry and has just introduced the first pharmaceutical-grade turmeric product for treating joint pain.

He zeroed in on turmeric because it’s the 9th most-used supplement in the U.S. (100+ varieties are sold on Amazon alone) but among the most debunked. One independent test showed that 61% of turmeric supplements are not absorbed by the human body and therefore ineffective. Another found that up to 40% contain synthetic turmeric made from petroleum.

In response, Cherukuri and his team developed Boscumin, a patent-pending, pharmaceutical-grade product that is 29 times more absorbable than leading turmeric supplements. That means it delivers 29 times more active natural anti-inflammatories to the body and joints, thereby helping increase mobility by over 300%.

Those results stem directly from Boscumin’s status as the first supplement to combine turmeric and boswellia (both herbal anti-inflammatories) and bond them to fat-soluble lecithin for improved stability and increased absorption. This combination has been clinically proven in over 40 human studies to reduce pain, stiffness and muscle soreness.

Testing the Supplement

Once I received the product, I began with two capsules a day, one in the morning and one at night. After four days, I was shocked to realize that I could climb the stairs without the constant aching pain in my knee. I continued to take two a day for two weeks. Because I wanted to be sure that it was the supplement that was helping me and not just a coincidence, I stopped taking the capsules. Within about five days some of the pain had returned. I resumed the capsules, and within two days the pain had subsided again. I am convinced that this curcumin/boswellia combination is a very effective anti-inflammatory that is working for me.

High Quality

Boscumin does not contain GMOs, dairy, egg, gluten, soy, wheat, sugar, salt, yeast preservatives, artificial color, flavor or fragrance.

After taking the supplement for a month, I’m happy to report that I was able to complete a hike in the Superstition Mountains without knee pain. Getting older has required that I accept  I’m not as young as I used to be, and my body does not heal as quickly as it used to.
