Where to Stay in Sedona Arizona to See the Red Rocks
Located only 2 hours north of Phoenix, Arizona, Sedona is a beautiful destination with a mild climate, stunning scenery, and something for everyone. The unique red-rock formations are a picturesque backdrop for varied activities. Walt Disney was among the many well-known visitors to this area and he named his Thunder Mountain Railroad ride after the Thunder Mountain located here in Sedona. Every direction you look you’ll see unique rock formations with interesting names like mermaid, bell, steamship, coffeepot, Snoopy, and Woodstock. You can easily drive to scenic vistas to capture photographs of the red rocks and, if you’re adventurous, you can hike up closer to the rock formations.
What to Do
The town has a vibrant arts scene with many local artists and over 80 art galleries. The art is predominantly Native American and Southwestern inspired. Over 200 local artists create handcrafted pieces here. Sedona is also known as a spiritual center with an abundance of holistic healers, therapists, and energy workers. One of the most notable spiritual experiences in Sedona is the vortexes. These enhanced energy locations are said to facilitate prayer, meditation, and healing. In addition to churches, there are sacred structures such as medicine wheels and labyrinths. If you like to be active, you will find hiking trails, mountain bike trails or horseback riding spots.
Where to Stay
In Sedona, there are lodging options to suit every budget. We wanted to stay in a centrally located spot close to the main shopping area. We chose to stay at the Hyatt Piñon Pointe, in a one-bedroom unit. They also offer two-bedroom units or studio units with kitchenettes. Keep in mind that the property is a Hyatt Residence Club so World of Hyatt membership benefits are not applicable here, this means no upgrades, automatic late-checkouts, free bottled water, or other World of Hyatt benefits. Although the property is part of the Hyatt Residence Club program, you can reserve rooms without owning a time-share interest. Nightly rates range from an average of $379 a night for the one-bedroom to $479 a night for the two-bedroom unit.
Note that this property does not have elevators and most units are up (or down) at least one flight of steps. We climbed three sets of stairs up to our second-floor unit, 923B. The hotel staff will offer assistance with luggage, if necessary.
Details About the One-Bedroom Unit
Our one-bedroom unit was spacious and more room than we needed for just the two of us. The space would comfortably accommodate a family of four or two couples traveling together as long as two people would share the full-size sofa bed.
The convenience of having a full kitchen was more important to me when my children were small. Now that my kids are grown and no longer travel with us, a kitchen isn’t as necessary. However, it was still nice to have the option to dine-in and prepare a light meal during our stay.
The extra space of a dining room and living room was much more luxurious than staying in a small hotel room. We had space to spread out and watch television, play games, and catch up on social media. Free Wi-Fi made staying connected easy. There were ample, built-in USB charging ports and electrical outlets on the tabletops at several locations throughout the unit: on each nightstand in the bedroom, on each end table in the living room, and on the desk in the dining area. The gas fireplace would be cozy on cooler nights.
Having a washer and dryer in our unit was also helpful as we could wash our dirty hiking clothes after our strenuous hikes. No need to repack sweaty clothes for the trip home.
On-Property Amenities and Activities
The property has a large swimming pool with two jacuzzi tubs. The activity center has pool towels for guest use as well as noodles and pool toys for kids to check out.
There are two gas fire pits on property. They’re lit each night. Marshmallow roasting sticks and s’mores kits are available for purchase at the activity center.
The activity center has complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate daily. There is a billiards table as well as a television and board games available.
The activity center has daily, scheduled activities for adults and children. There is also a supervised kids club where parents can leave their kids for a full-day, half-day or hourly stay.
The Hyatt Piñon Pointe, conveniently located within walking distance of the main shopping area in Sedona, and only a short drive to many exciting hikes was an excellent choice for our stay.
The beauty of the red rock formations is breathtaking. Sedona has such unique scenery; it is a one-of-a-kind location, not to be missed.

We were due to go ladt week but got snowed off!

That is too bad. The red rocks with the snow are SO beautiful. We got lucky once about 15 years ago and we had a trip booked to Sedona and it snowed the day before (we are less than two hours away though). Not enough snow to close roads but enough that the red rock formations were dusted with white. It was great. I’m so sorry your trip didn’t happen. I hope you get to go soon.
